Firearm License Steps

STEP ONE

PROFICIENCY

Complete the proficiency training from an accredited training provider. The training provider will conduct a knowledge test (often an open-book test followed by a closed-book test) and a practical shooting test.

COMPETENCY

Make an appointment with your DFO (Designated Firearm Officer) at the nearest SAPS. Apply for your competency certificate from your nearest SAPS. Your accredited training provider will outline what documents you will need; these include completing a SAPS 517 form along with the proficiency certificate and other required documents.

NATAL GUN COMPANY

Once you have received your competency certificate from SAPS, come to Natal Gun Company, or view some of our firearms through this website, and we will help you pick out the perfect firearm for you. We will hand you, or send you, a SAPS 350A and a SAPS 271 signed and stamped by us for your firearm of choice.

LEGALLY ARMED

Step five

APPLY FOR YOUR SPECIFIC FIREARM LICENSE

Make an appointment with your DFO at your nearest SAPS to hand in your application and apply for your firearm license. Each firearm must have its own license. Click here to view the documents you need to have with you to apply for your firearm licence.

STEP SIX

COLLECTION

Once your SAPS firearm license has been approved, you can pick up your license card from your DFO and pick up your firearm from Natal Gun Company!
